Lounge Review: Super Mario Kart (SNES)

I ask you; what makes a game so great? Why do we find ourselves spending hour after hour on certain games? Take Super Mario Kart as an example.
The year was 1992, and on a sunny September afternoon, I convinced my mom to drop $50+ on a game called Super Mario Kart. Later that afternoon, it became clear that my outdoor activities would come to a complete halt for the remainder of that summer. We had spent a few hours at "Kevins" house earlier that week playing the game, and even though the mode 7 graphics had given me a headache & a bad case of nausea, there I was, hooked on Mario Circuit #1.
What makes this one of the best games in history, and ensures a permanent "Lounge Three Seal of Approval" is the masterful combination of quick action, multiplayer variety, & an adaptive AI, all on a proven genre with characters we have can personally identify with, (DK for me). Whether you spend 5 minutes on a quick time trial race, or set up a lengthy tournament between friends, the variety of tracks & game types has something for everyone.

El Generale says: Definitely an all time classic and it would be great if it was remastered for the downloadable version.
